Welcome to The Magic Kingdom — the official website of the Friends of Swaziland. Friends of Swaziland is composed primarily of returned volunteers and others who have lived and served in the southern African Kingdom of Swaziland. Other individuals who are concerned about development issues related to Swaziland, and Africa in general, are also welcomed to participate in this information and aid site.

Friends of Swaziland is a non-profit organization organized exclusively for the purposes specified above and in accordance with Section 501 c(3) of the the Internal Revenue Code of 1954. We're hoping this website will serve to generate some memories, give you an idea of what's going on in Swaziland, reconnect with some old friends, and encourage you to join our organization. Swaziland RPCV Reunion in Washington, DC, 2011

Join us at Peace Corps’ 50th Anniversary Celebration in Washington, DC, September 21-25, to reconnect and reminisce with your Swaziland RPCV buddies.  In addition to the general reunion events planned by the National Peace Corps Association, Friends of Swaziland will be hosting the following:

  • Thursday 9/22, 6 PM:  Swaziland RPCV Happy Hour/Meet and Greet, sponsored by Friends of Swaziland.  Great time to practice your siSwati – Yebo! At Hotel Harrington. RSVP(appreciated, but not necessary) to jvonreyn@gmail.com.
  • Saturday 9/24, 12:30 PM: Friends of Swaziland Pizza Lunch Meeting and Social. Dine on the best flatbread pizza this side of Mbabane! Friends of Swaziland is hosting a special Pizza Luncheon/Country and Friends of Swaziland Update Meeting at Fire Works Pizzeria and Bar in Arlington, Virginia. Fire Works is easily accessible via Metro (Court House Station). Peace Corps Country Desk Officer Patrick McElroy will join us and speak on what's new with the Peace Corps Program in Swaziland and we'll update you on Friends activities. Cost: FREE to bona fide Swaziland RPCVs, however donations never refused! RSVP (appreciated, but not necessary) to jvonreyn@gmail.com
  • Sunday 9/25, 12 noon: Swaziland RPCVs participation in the Procession of Flags from Arlington National Cemetery to the Lincoln Memorial. Help carry the flag! Please come a little early or attend the 50th Anniversary Ceremony at the Cemetery Amphitheater starting at 10:00 AM.

Just about all events are free, so your expenses should be minimal, other than food and a place to stay (see NPCA site for hotels). The von Reyns are offering limited sleeping bag space at their home in Manassas (about 25 miles from DC), so let them know if you are interested at jvonreyn@gmail.com.  If you live in the DC area and have space for some Swaziland RPCVs, please let the von Reyn's know.
